An email from Eitan to his cousin Gal
Hi Gal,
How are you? I want to tell you about my class trip
yesterday. We visited the fire station in our town! We went
there by bus at nine o'clock in the morning.
A firefighter named Avi met us at the door. He was tall
and friendly, and he had a big smile. First, he showed us the
fire engine. It was bright red and very long, with a big
ladder on top. We climbed inside and sat in the seats. I even
pressed the button for the siren. It was so loud!
After that, Avi put on his uniform: a heavy jacket, big
boots, a helmet and a mask. He said that his team keeps these
clothes next to the fire engine, so they can be ready in one
minute when the alarm rings.
Then we learned about fire safety. Avi told us that every
home needs a smoke alarm, and that we must never play with
matches. In a fire, we should stay low, because smoke goes up.
And we must call 102.
At the end, each of us got a small plastic helmet. My
friend Lior wants to be a firefighter now, but I still want to
be a pilot! When I got home, I checked our smoke alarm with my
dad. It works!
Write back soon, Eitan
