For his eleventh birthday, Omer got a present from his
grandparents: a small silver robot. Its name was Bolt. Bolt
could walk, turn its head and say twenty words. It had blue
lights for eyes. Omer loved it more than any other toy.
Every day after school, Omer played with Bolt. He built a
road for it with books and boxes on his bedroom floor. His
little sister, Shira, wanted to play too, but Omer always
said, "No! Bolt is mine. You will break it."
One afternoon, Omer took Bolt to the balcony to show it to
his friend Adam. Bolt walked to the edge of the table, and
before Omer could catch it, it fell to the floor. One arm came
off, and the blue lights went dark. Omer pressed every button,
but nothing happened. He ran to his room and cried.
That evening, Shira knocked on his door. "Grandpa can fix
things," she said. "Let's call him." The next day, Grandpa
came with a box of tools. He sat at the kitchen table with
Omer and Shira and showed them how to open the robot. Shira
held the screws, and Omer put the arm back on.
When Omer pressed the button, Bolt's eyes turned blue
again. "Hello, friend!" said the robot. Omer smiled at his
sister. "Thank you, Shira," he said. "Do you want to play with
Bolt now?" From that day, Bolt had two best friends.
