Text 1: The Mirror House — A Museum of Illusions

Do you trust your eyes? After a visit to the Mirror House, you may

not! Our museum has more than fifty rooms and exhibits that play

tricks on your brain.

Our most popular room is the Crooked Room. When two people stand

in its corners, one looks like a giant and the other looks tiny. In

fact, they are the same height. The room has a strange shape, but when

you look through a small hole in the wall, it looks normal. In the

Upside-Down Room, you can take photos that make you look as if you are

walking on the ceiling. And in the Infinity Room, mirrors on every

wall make one small light look like a thousand stars.

Every exhibit has a short sign that explains the science behind

the trick. Our guides are also happy to answer questions.

Opening hours: Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 to 19:00; Friday, 9:00 to

14:00. Tickets: adults 60 shekels, children under 12 40 shekels,

children under 4 free. Groups of 20 or more get a 15% discount. Please

book school visits at least two weeks before. Photos are allowed

everywhere, so don't forget to charge your phone!

Text 2: My Year with the Birds — by Noa Katz, 16

Two years ago, my grandfather gave me an old pair of binoculars

for my birthday. I was not very excited. I thought birdwatching was a

hobby for old people. But one Saturday morning he took me to a park

near our home, and everything changed.

At first I saw only "birds" – small brown ones and big black ones.

Then my grandfather taught me to look more carefully: at the colour of

the wings, the shape of the beak and the way a bird flies. That

morning I saw a kingfisher dive into the water and come out with a

fish. I will never forget its bright blue colour.

Israel is a wonderful place for birdwatching. Every spring and

autumn, hundreds of millions of birds fly over our small country on

their way between Europe and Africa. In winter, thousands of cranes

stop at the Hula Valley in the north. Watching them fly up together at

sunrise is amazing.

Now I keep a notebook with every bird I see. So far I have 143

different kinds. Birdwatching has taught me to be patient and quiet –

two things I was never good at!
