Read the text and answer the questions in Parts A and B in English (70 points). Then write the composition in Part C (30 points). Answer in your own words if the question does not ask for words from the text. In the reading part, points are not taken off for grammar or spelling mistakes.

Every Wednesday at four o'clock, the doorbell rings in Shoshana Levi's

small flat in Be'er Sheva. Shoshana is eighty-three, and she lives alone.

Her husband died six years ago, and her children live abroad. "Before the

project, I sometimes didn't speak to anyone for three or four days," she

says. "Now I wait for Wednesday all week."

The visitors are Omer and Yael, two eleventh graders from a local high

school. They are part of a project called "Generations", which a group of

students started two years ago. The idea is simple: two teenagers visit the

same older person once a week for a whole school year. Today more than sixty

students take part.

Loneliness is a serious problem for many older people. Some researchers

say that it can be as bad for your health as smoking. People who feel lonely

often sleep badly, eat less and stop going out. Many of them feel that

nobody needs them any more.

The visits are not only about keeping someone company. Omer and Yael

help Shoshana with her phone, and last month they taught her to make video

calls to her grandchildren in Canada. In return, Shoshana teaches them to

cook her mother's Moroccan dishes, and she tells them stories about the

early days of the city, when it was much smaller.

"At first I joined because I needed volunteer hours for school," Omer

admits. "But now Shoshana is like a third grandmother to me." Yael agrees.

"We came to help her, but she helps us too. She gives us advice about

everything, from exams to friends."

The project now has a waiting list of older people, so the students are

looking for new volunteers. "You don't need any special skills," says Yael.

"You just need to come on time and listen."
