יש לקרוא את שני הטקסטים ולענות באנגלית על השאלות שאחרי כל טקסט. על טעויות בדקדוק או בכתיב לא מורידים נקודות, כל עוד התשובה ברורה.
Read the two texts and answer the questions that follow each text, in English. Points are not taken off for grammar or spelling mistakes, as long as the answer is clear.
Text 1: Gardens in the Sky
In big cities, there is not much space for parks and gardens.
Buildings, roads and car parks cover most of the ground. But many
cities have found a new place for plants: the roofs of buildings.
A rooftop garden can be small, with a few pots of herbs, or very
large, with trees, flowers and vegetables. Some restaurants grow their
own tomatoes and lettuce on the roof, so the food goes straight from
the garden to the kitchen.
Rooftop gardens help the city in many ways. In summer, plants keep
the roof cooler, so people inside need less air conditioning. Plants
also hold rainwater, which means that less water floods the streets
after a storm. And flowers on the roof give food to bees and birds.
However, building a rooftop garden is not simple. Wet soil is very
heavy, so the roof must be strong. Engineers must check the building
first. Gardens also need water every day, especially in a hot country
like Israel.
Text 2: Two Friends and a Microphone
Shira and Ethan are both fifteen, and they live in Modi'in. Two
years ago, they started a podcast called "Second Period." Every
Friday, they post a new episode of about twenty minutes.
In each episode, they talk about one topic that is important to
teenagers, like exams, social media, sleep or problems with parents.
Sometimes they invite a guest, for example a doctor, a basketball
coach or an older friend who is now a soldier.
They record the podcast in Ethan's bedroom. At first, they used
only a phone. Later, they saved money from babysitting and bought two
good microphones. Now Ethan edits the sound on his computer, and Shira
writes the questions for the guests.
Today, about 2,000 people listen to each episode. Many listeners
send messages with ideas for new topics. "The best part is when
someone writes, 'You helped me,'" says Shira. "That makes all the work
worth it."
