From the travel blog of Daniel, 16

Every winter, my parents choose a place in Israel for a family trip.

This year, they chose the Galilee, in the north of the country. My little

sister, Maya, was excited, but I was not. I wanted to stay at home and play

video games with my friends. I did not know that this trip would be one of

the best weekends of my life.

On the first morning, we drove to the Hula Valley. Every year, hundreds

of millions of birds fly over Israel on their way between Europe and Africa,

and many of them stop in the Hula. We sat in a special wagon pulled by a

tractor and watched thousands of cranes eating in the fields. The noise was

incredible – it sounded like a huge crowd at a football match.

The next day, we climbed Mount Arbel. The path was steep and rocky, and

at some points we had to hold on to metal handles in the rock. My mother was

scared, but my father kept saying, "Just don't look down!" When we got to

the top, we could see the whole Sea of Galilee below us. It was worth every

step.

On the last day, it rained, so we visited a small goat farm in the

hills. We fed the baby goats and tasted cheese that the farmer had made that

morning. Maya wanted to take a goat home, but my parents said no.

Before the trip, I thought nature was boring. I was wrong. I still love

video games, but now I want to go hiking more often. Next winter, I am going

to help my parents plan the trip.
